Sam Burchfield – “I Wanna Be Close”

Sam Burchfield is a singer-songwriter from Jasper, Georgia who will return on Friday with new album, Nature Speaks, via Cloverdale Records.

“I Wanna Be Close” is a heartbrekaing and tender track that is about “ longing to be close to someone, even when they go to the other side of the grave.” There’s an airy and soft-spoken nature to the track that packs a gentle but stirring natural power to it that delivers its message with deft percision that both pays tribute to the many alt country and folk classics that inspired it, while also forgeing a path of its own.

Further speaking on the track, Burchfield adds:

“This song is about longing to be close to someone, even when they go to the other side of the grave. I wrote it thinking of my wife, who has been an inspiration since I met her. We are always talking about wanting to grow old together, what we might be like as quirky old versions of ourselves. She’s always saying things like ‘I better die first, you better not leave me alone.’ It’s hard to imagine those gray years without your other half, and I guess this song explores that.”
