Cotton Caves – “Afraid”

Cotton Caves is the project of composer Jacob Bloomfield-Misrach, who has returned to his true love of indie after years in bands and a career as a film composer. He’s returned with new single “Afraid” a track that is an “honest sharing of being afraid of where the world is at right now.”

It’s a well crafted song that carries a ton of early 2000s indie elements that have a whimsical nature to it and definitely have that epic widescreen expansive film score flourishes that only heighten the emotion found within. Detailed sprawling guitars and gorgeous piano work all add up to something well dressed and filled to the brim with smart pop songwriting, and strong emotional undercurrent.

Detailing the track he adds:

It’s an honest sharing of being afraid of where the world is at right now. Everything is uncertain, and I think many of us are a bit paralyzed by fear these days.

Musically it’s getting back to indie pop that can also have teeth, be experimental at times and not be afraid to shake things up.
