Although it’s been 10 years since her last album, Rub, Peaches is back to take on the moment with “Not in Your Mouth None of Your Business,” off of her follow-up, No Lube So Rude.
It’s hard to think of other artists from Peaches’ era who match the level of provocative nature that she’s remained true to. And based on the recent rollout of No Lube So Rude, she isn’t planning on switching up anytime soon, much to listeners’ benefit.
When she announced the new album in an anniversary post for Rub, she said, “The world’s changed in ways I barely recognize…but our message is louder and clearer than ever. We cannot be squashed or minimized. You will never take away our pride.”
With that sentiment in mind, it’s clear “Not in Your Mouth” finds Peaches drawing from her thumping, confrontational approach to music. At the same time, there’s a modern sensibility to the stripped-back production, relying on the punchy beat to do most of the heavy lifting until the glitchy second half that lifts the song to new highs.
However, Peaches is more than capable of letting her performance carry a song forward. By the end of the track, it’s impossible for the repeating of “Not in your mouth, none of your business” not to get stuck in your head. And more importantly, you’ll see Peaches come at a time when her songwriting is needed.
See Peaches in LA at The Bellwether on March 20 and 21, as well as in Del Mar at The Sound on March 23.
