Parlando, the highly praised chamber orchestra, launches its 2025–26 season with the concert The Broken Promise on Tuesday, October 7 at 7:30 PM in NYC at Merkin Hall.

The orchestra Parlando was established in 2019 by Ian Niederhoffer, who had his concept of telling a mesmerizing story through his concerts.
With three rarely heard pieces, The Broken Promise goes over the rise and fall of German-Jewish culture Felix Mendelssohn’s bright and joyful “Son and Stranger” Overture opens up the night. Franz Schreker’s lush and bittersweet “Birthday of the Infanta” Suite comes after. Richard Strauss “Metamorphosen,” made during the emotional and physical destruction of World War II, will wrap up the program.
These works of art create a story plot, shifting from happiness and joy to sadness and self thoughts. Parlando’s performance will push audiences to sit with an emotional experience of how art has and still shapes people today.
Parlando sees this performance as the start of the most challenging season to date. Programs in future years will keep diving into unappreciated music. Asking questions about old concert styles, and starting to talk about the history and the cultural importance of music.
The Broken Promise gives fans an opportunity to see powerful music making. Regardless of your level of experience or interest in classical music or orchestra performances, fans are encouraged to experience this program.
